Join our high-caliber, motivated international team and actively contribute to shaping our global economic forecasts (GDP, inflation, etc.) and interest rate forecasts, while also supporting our client and public policy outreach efforts. A key focus of this internship is to explore and implement practical Generative AI (GenAI) applications in business and economic research—enhancing workflows, generating insights, and improving the efficiency and quality of our analytical outputs

Key tasks and responsibilities include:

• Explore, prototype, and apply GenAI tools and solutions to support macroeconomic research, forecasting, and communication (e.g. automating data summaries, enhancing presentations, optimizing workflows, etc)
• Support the development of views, analysis, and outlooks on key macroeconomic variables for major global economies (e.g. GDP growth, inflation, interest rates, central banks), while closely monitoring broader economic, political, and financial market trends
• Contribute to the design and enhancement of quantitative models used in macroeconomic and interest rate analysis
• Assist in Swiss Re’s thought-leadership and client outreach initiatives by preparing high-quality presentations and supporting work on publications
• Support the Group Chief Economist and Head of Macro Strategy in various tasks (e.g. writing background notes, designing slides, and occasional administrative support)

Group Economic & Sigma Research (GESR) is part of the Swiss Re Institute and is responsible for analysing and forecasting the global macroeconomic and insurance market environment. GESR holds a crucial role in steering Swiss Re's capital allocation for both sides of the balance sheet. The team also drives thought leadership on topics of strategic importance and is responsible for Swiss Re's flagship Sigma publication series

About You

• Completed university degree in Economics, Finance or Data Science, ideally at Master level. A degree from another field is also possible, though excellent working knowledge of Economics/Finance is expected
• Ability to break down, communicate and visualize often complex concepts in an easy and digestible way. Both written and verbal communication skills are excellent in English; other languages like German are a plus
• Strong analytical skills and ability to focus on details without losing track of the bigger picture
• Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) is required
• Some knowledge on practical GenAI integrations in a business context is a distinct advantage
• Econometric and programming skills in one of the major statistical softwares/programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python) is a distinct advantage
• Highly motivated with a can-do attitude; dedication to continuous learning and willingness to challenge and improve the status quo
• Very agile, open-minded and curious personality with ability to work under tight timelines
• Mature and proactive; showing a high degree of own initiative
• Strong interest in/motivation to learn about insurance/reinsurance
• Ability and enthusiasm to work in a global and multicultural environment
